Renewable Energy Management
Inowattio
Managing distributed energy assets across solar, storage, and flexible loads requires more than generic software development. It requires domain expertise, market access, and a platform built for the physics and economics of real-time energy systems.
Nerds built Inowattio — a proprietary energy management platform for producers, prosumers, aggregators, and energy communities. We hold an ANRE aggregator license (#2699) to operate in Romania's energy market and act as a Balance Responsible Party (BRP), giving us direct access to OPCOM and DAMAS for day-ahead, intraday, and balancing market participation. This is not outsourced knowledge — we built the platform, we operate the assets, and we understand the regulatory and technical landscape from the inside.
858 TWh increase in renewable electricity generation in 2024 (new record).
Power Library~33% of global electricity came from renewables in 2024 (≈14% hydro, 8% wind, 7% solar, 3% bioenergy).
IEA585 GW of renewables added in 2024 (92.5% of all new power capacity)
IRENAInowattio energy management platform
Inowattio is a full-stack energy management system (EMS) that monitors, forecasts, optimizes, and controls distributed energy resources from a single platform. It covers the entire lifecycle — from asset onboarding and real-time telemetry to market bidding and automated settlement.
We offer Inowattio as a SaaS platform for organizations that need proven, ready-to-deploy energy management, or as a custom implementation tailored to specific infrastructure, market rules, and business models. Both options include web dashboards and dedicated mobile applications for iOS and Android, giving operators and managers full visibility and control from any device.
Virtual power plant and aggregation services
As a licensed aggregator and BRP in Romania, we aggregate distributed flexible resources — solar, batteries, EVs, and flexible industrial loads — into a coordinated virtual power plant (VPP). Our platform handles automated market bidding across frequency response (FCR, FFR), capacity markets, wholesale energy, and balancing products.
Native integration with OPCOM and DAMAS means bids flow directly from the optimization engine to the market and TSO activation signals flow back — no manual steps, no third-party middleware. Granular earning attribution tracks revenue down to individual dispatch events, and automated settlement reports provide full transparency for every participating asset.
Energy community platform
Inowattio provides a complete platform for energy communities: member and asset onboarding (solar, batteries, EVs), real-time tracking of internal energy flows, and automated financial settlement with producer credits, consumer debits, and monthly statements. Community balance is calculated through proportional or rule-based allocation depending on the community's configuration.
For communities ready to participate in energy markets, we aggregate shared batteries, flexible loads, and solar surplus into group flexibility offers with integrated day-ahead (PZU) and intraday trading. Blockchain-backed settlement ensures tamper-proof, auditable records across all participants. Regulatory compliance — including supplier communication and block transfer reporting — is automated to avoid double-charging and simplify administration.
AI-driven forecasting and energy optimization
Short-term predictive forecasts for PV production, site load, and price signals feed optimization models that maximize asset value across multiple revenue streams simultaneously. The platform manages peak shaving, energy arbitrage, time-of-use shifting, self-consumption maximization, and renewable generation curtailment — earning revenue even when the grid is oversupplied.
Digital asset twins characterize each resource's flexibility capabilities and operational constraints, enabling the optimization engine to co-optimize across imbalance management and flexibility market participation. Where flexibility markets are available, we handle day-ahead and intraday scheduling, balancing and reserve products, and congestion management. Automated ESG and stakeholder reporting tracks sustainability KPIs and CO2 emission reductions across the portfolio.
Real-time asset control and dispatch
Control loops deliver sub-second setpoint commands with millisecond-level automated dispatch for fast frequency response. Each command is validated against device capabilities, power quality thresholds, and safety interlocks on state of charge, state of health, thermal limits, and grid constraints before execution.
If the network drops, the edge maintains safe operation using locally defined schedules and reconciles state and data upon reconnection — preserving both device lifetime and grid compliance. Manual override capabilities ensure core processes always take priority, and fail-safe operations are built into every control path.
White-label EMS for energy companies
Energy companies, utilities, and technology integrators can deploy Inowattio under their own brand with custom domains, logos, and tailored interfaces. The multi-tenant cloud architecture supports multiple customers from a single deployment with enterprise-grade security and independent scaling.
Partners get full control over pricing, subscriptions, service bundles, and upsells — building recurring revenue streams on top of proven energy management infrastructure. Open integration architecture with REST APIs, IoT APIs, and third-party connectors enables seamless data exchange with existing systems. We provide technical support, training, and co-marketing support to accelerate go-to-market.
DAMAS and OPCOM market integration
Participating in Romania's energy market requires integration with DAMAS (the TSO's dispatching and scheduling platform) and OPCOM (the market operator). We are building native interfaces that connect energy management systems directly to this market infrastructure — enabling automated scheduling, nomination, and settlement workflows for aggregators, BRPs, and energy companies operating in markets that use DAMAS across the region.
Industrial protocols and enterprise integration
Interoperability is fundamental. We support IEC 60870-5-104 for SCADA links, Modbus TCP/RTU and SunSpec for field devices, OPC UA for industrial gateways, DNP3 for utility infrastructure, and MQTT 5 over TLS for efficient publish/subscribe telemetry. For enterprise integration, we expose REST and GraphQL APIs secured with OAuth2 and JWT, and we stream data into time-series stores, data lakes, and BI tools.
The platform plugs into existing SCADA/EMS, ERP, billing, and analytics systems without disruptive rip-and-replace projects.
Security, compliance, and regulatory reporting
Communications are protected with bank-grade encryption — TLS 1.3 and mutual certificates for all data in transit, with end-to-end encryption at rest. SCADA channels run over dedicated VPN overlays. The platform implements least-privilege RBAC, encrypted secrets, and network policies to minimize the attack surface, with regular third-party security audits and penetration testing.
Regulatory compliance is automated: supplier communication, block transfer reporting, and audit-ready documentation are generated from real-time operational data. The cloud-native microservices architecture enables independent scaling and grid-grade reliability for industrial-scale energy operations.
From pilot to portfolio
Engagement starts with a technical assessment of assets, data, market rules, and KPIs, followed by a focused pilot across 5-20 sites with clearly defined ROI targets. Once value is proven, we scale with automated onboarding, configuration templates, and remote operations that keep portfolios reliable. Phased rollout means you validate results before committing to full deployment.
